Septic systems are closed systems, that is, other than the particular waste waters for which they are purported, no other waste water is allowed to enter it. It follows that no other bacteria can enter the system until the waste water leaves the septic tank and enters the soak pit. The organic solid settled in the septic tank, may need removal.
The majority of the bacteria in the septic tank are anaerobic stomach bacteria. These bacteria excrete slime like mucous, protecting the anaerobes from oxygen, which is fatal for them. When in contact with the soak pit soil and secrete this slime in copious amounts which eventually clogs the pores of the soil.
